Background of the Congress

4th International Plant Physiology Congress (IPPCongress-2018) has been planned to address emerging issues concerning the agricultural productivity and nutritional quality. Today, one of the major challenges before the researchers/scientists is to increase crop productivity to feed the increasing population through optimal utilization of natural resources, from decreasing per capita available arable land and fresh water. This challenge is further exacerbated by global warming. In view of national commitment for ensuring food security, there is a need to develop strategies to boost the crop productivity. Harnessing potential of basic physiological processes and engineering the biochemical mechanisms involved in the synthesis of primary agricultural produce are essential to improve productivity. Besides, there is need to improve the nutritive value of the agricultural produce. Thus, physiological interventions present themselves as indispensable options to ensure food and nutritional security. Therefore, we need to develop genotypes and production technologies capable of enhancing both crop productivity and quality under climate change scenario.

Keeping in view, the Indian Society of Plant Physiology (ISPP), New Delhi in association with National Botanical Research Institute, Lucknow planned to organize 4th International Plant Physiology Congress from December 2nd to 5th, 2018. The proposed program of the congress will provide the platform for discussion on recent advances, identification of research gap and preparation of road map for plant biology research.

The conference will bring together the leading scientists and scholars in the area of plant biology to discuss the current and future challenges, exchange of ideas and sharing of new findings and develop collaborative multidisciplinary research programmes. There will be two plenary lectures on each day by the prominent researchers who will highlight recent progress and knowledge gaps related to current topics.
